Hirose Electric and Harting Electronics announced they will work on the joint development and product standardization of a miniaturized connection technology system for 10Gbit Ethernet.
Aimed to offer a robust Ethernet interface for high-speed data transmission rates for industrial automation, the new standard will be promoted by both companies.
“As a form of the Internet of Things, there is one thing that ‘Industry 4.0’ requires above all else: an Ethernet connection to each and every ‘Industry 4.0’ component,” explained Philip Harting, Chairman of the Board at the HARTING Technology Group. “The standardization and international norms for new high-performance components and infrastructure is an essential requirement for market success and provides planning security.”
Hirose, which has played a significant role in the miniaturization of consumer connectors such as micro-USB (USB2.0, 3.0, and 3.1), will focus on the industrial market and apply its expertise to provide high-end miniaturized connectivity solutions for ‘Industry 4.0’.
Pooling their respective strengths, the two connector manufacturers will partner on the development of a new industrial Ethernet interface specifically aimed at ‘Industry 4.0’ applications.
